Dr. Scott Swanson

Professor of Biblical & Theological Studies

Dr. Scott A. Swanson is professor of biblical and theological studies at Providence Christian College and one of the first full-time faculty members. He calls biblical and theological studies, “a tremendously exciting endeavor, and essential for equipping us to live for Christ.” “At Providence,” he adds, “the classroom is only the beginning, as we share in each others’ lives and engage the world in Avodah excursions and other planned and unplanned activities.”

In 2004, Dr Swanson received the Ph.D. in Hebraic and cognate studies and the history of biblical interpretation from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio. He lived in Israel with his family for seven years, while studying ancient Semitic languages in the masters program at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Another year was spent in France (Faculté de Théologie Réformée) and Switzerland (L’Abri). In addition, he holds a master’s degree from Westminster Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s degree from Westmont College.

Dr. Swanson’s wife, Kim, is the librarian at Ontario Christian High School. They have three children: Luke, David, and Larissa. The Swansons are members of First URC in Chino, California. Dr. Swanson enjoys running, hiking, mountain climbing, and has led Providence students and staff on several hikes. He also pursues eclectic interests in reading (literature, history, sci-fi, and theology) and music (classical, jazz, and rock).
